Automatic Toy Painting Line
Plastic toy spray painting is a surface treatment technology aimed at providing plastic toys with an aesthetically pleasing and durable coating. This process involves several key steps, including pre-treatment, spraying, and curing, to ensure uniform coating adhesion and compliance with safety standards. Toy painting line is dedicated for toy manufacturer to provide high quality surface treatment. Since the level of coating will determine the final toy quality directly, it’s crucial equipment for toy production.
All high quality toy products are made by leading materials with smart coating solutions. Generally there’re plastic, metal and wood material toys. Based the material properties, they need different coating technologies and workflow design.
Toy Painting Line Process Flow
Plastic/metal toys: loading -> de-dust -> pre-heating -> base coat spray -> curing -> top coat spray -> unload
Wood toys: loading -> de-dust -> pre-heating -> base coat spray -> curing -> sanding -> de-dust -> pre-heating -> topy coat spray -> unload
Pre-treatment is the foundation of the spraying process, primarily aimed at cleaning and activating the surface of the plastic parts. Common methods include using alkaline cleaning agents or organic solvents to remove oil and dust, and improving surface roughness through electrostatic dust removal or sandblasting to enhance adhesion. For materials that are difficult to adhere to, such as polypropylene, a primer (such as PP water) may be applied and dried beforehand to improve the bonding of subsequent coatings.
Spray painting process selects appropriate methods based on the toy’s shape and material. Air spraying is suitable for complex shapes, using compressed air to atomize the paint; electrostatic spraying utilizes the principle of electrostatic adsorption to improve paint utilization and coating uniformity. Modern automated systems employ three-way spraying technology, including outer wall spraying, inner wall extension tube spraying, and end compensation spraying, combined with rotating components to achieve 360-degree coverage and reduce blind spots. Process parameters such as spray gun pressure, paint viscosity, and spraying distance must be strictly controlled to avoid defects such as orange peel and missed spraying.
Curing and quality control stage involves drying or baking to set the coating. Air drying components often use laminar airflow and temperature control (e.g., 45±2℃) to accelerate the curing of acrylic resin coatings, reducing the surface drying time to as little as 12 minutes. Baking curing is usually performed at 60-80℃ for 15-30 minutes. Quality inspection includes coating thickness (standard 0.08-0.12mm), adhesion testing (such as the cross-hatch test), and surface defect inspection to ensure compliance with safety standards such as EN71-3:2019.
Main parts of toy painting line
Similar to other coating lines, a toy line consists of conveyor, spray booth and curing oven. The difference is about jigs. We provide basic one time jig installation and you may have to design the proper holder to load your toys on jigs.
Unlike many other coating solutions, toy products not only requires high quality surface but also safety. Either the coating line or the paint you use must ensure cleanness to avoid pollusion. Much like mobile phone that we use every day.
Toy Painting Line FAQ
To understand how you can configure the proper coating line equipment, we have designed following faqs so you can get brief idea where to start.
Is automatic line better than manual option?
Yes, because it’s central managed for automatic operation, there’s no human issue included like the manual line. And of course the overall cost is a little high.
What do you need in order to start the line design?
We need to know about your product size, the technologies you want to use, available workshop size(if you have) and installation requirements. It’s the best if we have your workshop structure files.
What’s the approx cost?
The cost is solely based your output rate and technologies to use. We have to understand your requirement in order to calculate the best price.
What kind of service do you provide?
We provide design, manufacturing and onsite installation service. There’re up to 30 days training service can be offered based the actual situation.
